A Center for Advanced Technology (CAT) is a cost-sharing funding program supported by New York Empire State Development’s Division of Science, Technology, and Innovation (NYSTAR/ESD). NYSTAR supports 15 CATs statewide, each with a different technology focus aligned with the expertise and resources within the University in which they are located.

Sensor Technology is the focus of the CAT located within City University of New York’s (CUNY) focal point for high-end research, the Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC). The ASRC Sensor CAT has a particular focus on Biomedical Devices and Diagnostics as well as Environmental Systems and Big Data processing.

Our mission is to increase New York State academic-industry collaboration to develop sensor-based technology. By facilitating access to necessary research instrumentation and academic expertise, the Sensor CAT plays a critical role in spurring technology-based applied research. In addition, it focuses on offering students industry-focused training courses and engagement, developing vital skills and providing a pathway to future job opportunities.

CAT Matching Fund Awards are awarded to CUNY Researchers and NY Industry partnerships which demonstrate a clear plan to develop sensor-related technology with the potential to impact economic growth in New York State.
